NC General Convention to be held on stipulated date

KATHMANDU: A proposal has been submitted in the Nepali Congress (NC) to amend the internal schedule of the lower level so that the General Convention can be held on the stipulated date of February 19, 2021.

The proposal was presented at the Central Working Committee meeting of the party held at the party’s central office in Sanepa to revise the general convention schedule affected by the COVID-19.

Spokesperson Bishwa Prakash Sharma informed that the adjustment of the internal structure, which was scheduled to be completed on June 29, now has been extended to July 15.

According to Sharma, the meeting has also proposed to submit the final list of active members to the Central Election Committee and to convene a convention of 7,000 wards across the country by December 22.

Spokesperson Sharma informed that the meeting also proposed to convene the conventions of 751 local levels on December 23, the Provincial Assembly on December 26 and the districts with one constituency in the House of Representatives on December 28.

The meeting has proposed to hold the convention in the districts with more than one constituency on January 3 and in the provinces on January 6.

The meeting also discussed the statement made by Prime Minister KP Oli that India was conspiring to change the government.

After the meeting, Spokesperson Sharma said, “The statement that India was conspiring to remove the prime minister after the endorsement of the revised map is irresponsible — an expression beyond diplomatic values.”

Sharma added that the issue of endorsing the map is not the issue of a Prime Minister.
“The whole country was united on the issue,” he said.

The main opposition has concluded that the Prime Minister tried to change the issue even after requesting to take initiative for the return of land after the publication of the updated map.
