NEPSE climbs nearly 8 points as turnover rises to Rs 6.26 billion



KATHMANDU: The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) index gained 7.90 points on Friday to close at 2,734.63, with share prices of 143 listed companies advancing, 118 declining and 15 remaining unchanged.

Market activity also strengthened, with daily turnover increasing to Rs 6.26 billion from Rs 4.67 billion recorded on Thursday.

The day’s most actively traded stocks were Ridi Power Company, NRN Infrastructure and Development, Kumari Bank, Ankhu Khola Jalvidhyut Company and Reliance Spinning Mills.

Among the sectoral indices, banking posted the biggest gain, rising 1.17 percent. Development banks increased by 0.96 percent, hotels and tourism by 0.42 percent, microfinance by 0.36 percent, life insurance by 0.13 percent and non-life insurance by 0.02 percent.

Meanwhile, the trading sector fell by 0.35 percent, the ‘others’ group by 0.26 percent, manufacturing and processing by 0.59 percent, hydropower by 0.12 percent and finance by 0.15 percent.

Everest Color Company emerged as the top gainer, with its share price surging 15 percent. It was followed by Sagarmatha Jalvidhyut Company, up 6.59 percent; Khanikhola Hydropower, up 6.00 percent; Jhapa Energy, up 5.50 percent; and Daram Khola Hydro Energy, which gained 4.68 percent.

Corporate Development Bank was the biggest loser of the day, with its share price dropping 7.38 percent. Bottlers Nepal (Balaju) declined 3.00 percent, while NADEP Laghubitta Bittiya Sanstha and Solu Hydropower each fell 2.89 percent.
