Landslide victims call for geological study of their settlements

GULMI: Landslide victims in different parts of the district have urged the authority concerned to study the possible risks and impact of landslides.

They have urged for carrying out geological and geographical study so that the victims could be aware and minimize the risk. Some road sections and villages are swept away by landslide while some are at high risk.

A total of 15 households at Bedukharka of Resunga Municipality in the district were displaced and additional five houses are in a high risk by the landslides.

A local Tulsi Ram Kunwar shared that they asked the authority to confirm whether their settlement was in risk or not in this rainy season as incessant rainfall is posing threat to the villagers.

He added that the villagers have left their houses and asking shelters in relatives’ house owing a possible risk of landslide. The landslides have blocked Tamghas-Sandhikharka and Tamghas-Nayagaun Road section.

The locals have complained that the risk has increased further with the haphazard construction of roads without proper environmental and geological study.

Similarly, another local, Pom Narayan Subedi, shared that they were displaced after a cliff section of the road fell down sweeping away their settlements.

On the other hand, the mayor at the Municipality Dilliraj Bhusal committed to provide possible assistance to the affected locals. He shared that they will consult the experts to study the risk and find out suitable alternative measures to keep the locals in safe settlements. RSS
