KATHMANDU: The Standing Committee (SC) meeting of the Nepal Communist Party (NCP) which is underway since June 24 is likely to change the modality of agenda for discussion.

In the last five days, the meeting focused on border issue, amendment to the Coast of Arms. Since some leaders are yet to express their views, it is likely that the topic for discussion might slightly change a course.

In the ongoing SC meeting, leaders are discussing border issue, COVID-19 prevention and control, MCC and remaining work of party unification.

SC member Devendra Paudel said General Secretary has been requested to tweak the modality of the agenda since there are many agendas for discussion which might take a long time.

Prime Minister KP Oli was not present in the meeting held on June 26 and 27 even though he and another Chair Pushpa Kamal Dahal expressed their views in the first meeting on June 24.

Senior leader Madhav Kumar Nepal and Executive Chairman Dahal are said to be asking Prime Minister Oli to leave one of the two posts on the ground of his health condition.

“In the last two meetings, Prime Minister could not attend citing his health condition due to which both the party and the government could not gain momentum,” said a leader close to Nepal said, adding, “Oli should leave one of the two posts.”

According to him, ‘one person one post’ system will help in party unification and as well as in the acceleration of government activities.
