KATHMANDU: The much-awaited Secretariat meeting of the ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) is underway at the Prime Minister’s official residence in Baluwatar.

Secretariat members have gathered in Baluwatar to thrash out the intra-party differences that have surfaced of late.

The nine-member Secretariat has leaders including Prime Minister KP Oli, Pushpa Kamal Dahal, Madhav Kumar Nepal, Jhalanath Khanal, Bishnu Poudel, Ishwor Pokhrel, Narayan Kaji Shrestha, Bamdev Gautam, and Ram Bahadur Thapa.

A meeting of leaders representing two different groups had on Tuesday agreed to summon the Secretariat meeting to settle the intra-party feuds.

The decision to this effect was made soon after the two Chairmen — KP Oli and another Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal held a meeting on Tuesday afternoon at the Prime Minister’s official residence in Baluwatar.

The Secretariat meeting will decide whether to summon the Standing Committee meeting or not.

It has been learned that party senior leader Madhav Kumar Nepal is adamant that a policy of ‘one person, one post’ should be implemented within the party.

Meanwhile, earlier today, Prime Minister Oli collected signatures of lawmakers close to him in an effort to prove his majority in the Parliamentary Party.

The signature campaign was initiated after lawmakers advised Prime Minister Oli to show his majority.

The disgruntled faction of the party led by senior leader Nepal, too, had initiated a signature campaign of lawmakers.

This means that both the factions are hell-bent on proving their majority. “We, too, have initiated a signature campaign to prove our majority,” a lawmaker from the leader Nepal camp said insisting anonymity.

Senior leader Nepal and party Chairman Dahal has joined hands to oust Prime Minister Oli of late.
