Malaysia beats Nepal by 22 runs in ACC Eastern Region T20



KATHMANDU: Malaysia defeated Nepal by 22 runs in the first match of the ACC Eastern Region Twenty20 held at Terdthai Cricket Ground in Bangkok on Saturday.

Chasing down the 155-run target set by Malaysia, Nepal managed to get only 132 runs on the board losing all wickets in 19.4 overs.

For Nepal, Gyanendra Malla and Dipendra Singh Airee contributed an equal 38 runs.

They made a partnership of 67 runs for Nepal which had made a devastating start to the run chase as Pawan Shraff contributed 19 runs.

Malaysia’s Sharvin Muniandy took four wickets.

Earlier, electing to bat first after winning the toss, Malaysia notched up 154 runs losing six wickets in the allotted 20 overs.

Malaysia’s cricketer Syed Aziz top-scored with 51 runs and remained unbeaten. Similarly, Anwar Arudin made 31 runs while Mohammad Noor contributed 30 runs.

In reply, Nepal’s Sandeep Lamichhane grabbed three wickets of Malaysia, becoming the first Nepali cricketer to take 100 wickets in the Twenty20.

Similarly, Avinash Bohara took two wickets.

Nepal, Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore and Hong Kong are taking part in the cricket tournament.

Being played under the round-robin format, top two teams of the tournament will be allowed to play in the Asia Cup Qualifiers.

Nepal will take on Hong Kong in its second match on Sunday.
