KATHMANDU: Several major airlines have suspended flights to China over the coronavirus outbreak that has killed over 130 people in China and spread across the world, international media reports have said.
The following airlines have suspended their flights to China:
American Airlines
American Airlines said it will suspend flights from Los Angeles to Beijing and Shanghai from February 9 through March 27, citing sagging demand in the wake of the coronavirus outbreak.
British Airways
The British Airways said on Wednesday that it had suspended all direct flights to and from mainland China.
The airline’s website, BA.com, showed no direct flights to China available to book in January and February.
Lufthansa
Germany’s Lufthansa said issued a statement saying it is suspending Swiss and Austrian Airlines flights to and from China until February 9.
The airline, however, continues to fly to Hong Kong.
Air Tanzania
Air Tanzania, the country’s state-owned carrier, said it will postpone its maiden flights to China owing to concerns over the spread of coronavirus.
Finnair
Finnish Airline Finnair said it is suspending its flights to Nanjing and Beijing until the end of March.
The airline will also suspend its weekly flights between Helsinki and Beijing Daxing between February 5 and March 29.
United
United, the Chicago-based airline, said it was suspending 24 U.S. flights to Shanghai, Beijing, and Hong Kong between February 1 and February 8 due to the ‘significant drop’ in demand.
Air Canada
Air Canada is also cancelling select flights to China.
Cathay Pacific Airways
Cathay Pacific of Hong Kong said it would reduce capacity to and from mainland China by 50 percent or even more from January 30 to the end of March.
Lion Air
Lion Air Group of Indonesia said on January 29 that it would suspend all flights to China from February.
Air Seoul
South Korean carrier Air Seoul said it had suspended all flights to China.
Air India
Air India said it would cancel its Mumbai-Delhi-Shanghai flight from January 31 to February 14.
