SC hearing writ on NCP’s name postponed

KATHMANDU: The Supreme Court (SC)’s hearing on the writ petition on the name of the Nepal Communist Party (NCP) has been postponed.

A joint bench of Justices Ishwor Prasad Khatiwada and Kumar Regmi was scheduled to hear the case.

On December 6, Chairman of NCP Rishi Raj Kattel, had filed a case at Election Commission seeking revocation of the name of the NCP arguing that he had already registered this name at the office of the Election Commission.

Kattel had filed the case after the then CPN-UML and CPN (Maoist Center) merged to become the NCP. On October 25, the Commission had decided on this issue in favor of the ruling NCP.

Kattel, then, moved the SC challenging the decision of the Commission.
