Nepal Army hands over 600 rifles to Armed Police Force



KATHMANDU: Further intensifying the cordial relationship between two armed security forces Nepal Army (NA) has handed over 600 INSAS (Indian Small Arms System) Rifle to Armed Police Force (APF).

According to NA sources, enforcing the decision of the Council of Ministers of June 29, Nepali Army has handed over the 5.56 mm calibre rifles to Armed Police Force.

In a program organized at the NA headquarters in Kathmandu, Major General Rajendra Karki, Director General of Military Operations handed over rifles procured from India during Maoist armed insurgency in Nepal to Additional Inspector General (AIG) Ram Saran Poudel of APF.

According to NA spokesperson Santosh Ballav Poudel, the weapons were handed over to APF as part of cooperation in the capacity enhancement of APF.

He added that NA will also provide maintenance and operational training to the APF.

APF has been using 7.63 mm SLR.

APF will use the rifles to empower the security forces deployed in the borders.
