NHRC draws govt’s attention to guarantee right to life

KATHMANDU: The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has asked the government to restrain zero tolerance to the serial incidents of caste-based discrimination, rape and murder and bring the perpetrator(s) to book after undertaking prompt and impartial investigation into such incidents.

Issuing a press release on Friday, NHRC secretary Bed Prasad Bhattarai has cautioned the government to exercise zero tolerance to the incidents of discriminations, killing and rape propping up in society of late.

The constitutional human rights watchdog has expressed serious attention to the incident of alleged rape of a 13-year-girl on May 9 and 10, and her subsequent death at Devdaha municipality-11 in Rupandehi district.

The NHRC’s State Office Butwal also made on-site inspection following the suspected death of Angira Pasi.

The victim girl was handed to the alleged rapist on the presence of local representatives instead of bring the perpetrator to the legal process.

The NHRC has drawn the government attention to fairly investigate into the incident and bring the guilty to justice.

Such frequent incidents in society has undermined the constitutionally-guaranteed children’s right to life with dignity, the press release said.
