JOMSOM: Nepal government has established a border operation post (BOP) in Nepal’s northern border at Korala of Mustang.

A BOP of Armed Police Force (APF) has been established in the northern border at Lomanthang-4, Netchung, Mustang, some 10 km off from Nepal’s northern border with China’s autonomous region, Tibet.

The BOP has been established at the Border Customs Office’s newly-built quarantine building meant for the local feasts observed twice every monsoon.

Inaugurating the newly built BOP, Additional Inspector General of Armed Police Narayan Badu Thapa hoped the establishment of the BOP will curb unlawful activities in the northern Korala area.

“The lifeline of Gandaki Province, this checkpoint has great significance for the whole country,” AIGP Thapa said, “I am hopeful this will curb illegal and unlawful activities taking place in this area.”

Indradhara Bisht, a lawmaker of Gandaki Province, hinted that the establishment of the post show that the government is planning to open Korala passes formally soon.

He added that the task of road upgrading has been intensified lately.
