Deuba stresses need for protecting the Constitution

KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress president Sher Bahadur Deuba has extended best wishes to all Nepalis on the occasion of the Republic Day.

In a message of best wishes on the occasion today, Deuba, who is the leader of the main opposition party in parliament, paid high respects and condolences to the brave martyrs who laid down their lives in the people’s movements waged for establishing and reinstatement of democracy in the country.

Stating that the country has been established as a federal democratic republican nation under the Nepali Congress’ leadership following the success of the historic people’s movement based on the unprecedented sacrifice and dedication of the Nepali people, he underscored the need of protecting the Constitution of Nepal and of maintaining stability of the federal democratic republican system.

In his message, NC president Deuba wished that may the Republic Day inspire all to creating an equitable society based on democratic culture, tradition, norms and values while taking the nation ahead on the path of economic prosperity.

He has also urged one and all to face the coronavirus pandemic with high alertness and strong willpower, saying the country was presently facing a difficult and sensitive situation thrown up by this global pandemic.

Also the former Prime Minister, Deuba reiterated that Limpiyadhura, Kalapani and Lipulek areas belonged to Nepal.

He welcomed the constitution amendment proposal registered in the parliament for including these areas in the new political and administrative map of Nepal as a positive step, adding that his party would take an institutional decision on this matter from the party’s central committee meeting.
