KERALA: A person in the Indian state of Kerala, who is said to have suffered withdrawal symptoms after statewide ban on liquor sales, has committed suicide.

A man named Sanoj Kulangara, 38, was found hanging from a ceiling fan at his home on Friday, police in Kunnakulam said, Indian media reports have said.

The Indian state of Kerala has imposed a ban on the sale of liquor after Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced a 21-day nationwide lockdown.

Kulangara’s family members said that he was an alcoholic. He suffered severe withdrawal symptoms after the lockdown and ban on liquor, police said.
