Death toll from COVID19 climbs to 12 in Italy, with 400 infected

KATHMANDU: Twelve people have died and 400 others have been infected due to coronavirus in Italy, said BBC.

According to health officials, the number of infected people have increased by 25 percent in the span of 24 hours.

The number of infected people was 320 as of Tuesday evening and now it has now climbed to 400.

The new virus is mostly taking toll on Lombardy and Veneto in the north-east region of the country.

The Italian government has imposed a lock-down in the 12 cities while the educational institutes, movie halls, cafeteria and hotels have remained shut following the spread of COVID19.

The cases of the new virus were also found in Austria, Croatia, Greece, Norway and Switzerland on Wednesday.

The coronavirus which was detected on the last week of December has spread to 34 countries, claiming over 2,700 and infecting 80,000 people globally. Most of those deaths are in mainland China.
