SC hearing writ filed against Speaker Sapkota today

KATHMANDU: The Supreme Court (SC) is scheduled to hear the writ petition filed against newly elected Speaker of the House of Representatives Agni Sapkota today.

A single bench of Justice Sapana Malla will hear the case,  a source at the SC said.

A single bench of Justice Hari Phuyal at the Supreme Court (SC) was due to hear the petition on Sunday. The bench could not hear the case as Phuyal had advocated in a case against Sapkota earlier when he was an advocate.

Hence, the hearing on a writ petition filed against the candidate of Speaker Agni Sapkota had been postponed.

Senior Advocate Dinesh Tripathi on January 24 filed a writ petition at the Supreme Court (SC) against the candidate of Speaker Agni Sapkota, seeking an interim order to immediately halt the process of Speaker’s election arguing that a murder-accused should not qualify for the post of Speaker of the federal parliament.

Speaker was unanimously elected as the new Speaker of the House of Representatives on Sunday.
