Don’t fall prey to PM Oli’s assurances of polls, Dr Bhattarai urges NC

KATHMANDU: Janata Samajwadi Party (JSP) leader Dr. Baburam Bhattarai has urged the Nepali Congress (NC) not to fall prey to Prime Minister KP Oli’s assurance of holding elections.

Stating that Prime Minister Oli was aiming for an autocratic rule, Bhattarai said PM Oli will not hold elections unless he is assured of his dominance.

Addressing a protest rally by Janata Samajbadi Party in Kathmandu on Sunday against the dissolution of the House of Representatives (HoR), Bhattarai urged Nepali Congress to not have the illusion that they would win the elections and form the government.

Recalling that the Panchayat and former King Gyanendra Shah, too, had announced elections, Bhattarai said that the election announced by them and PM Oli is just an illusion.

“Holding elections were mere talks to prolong their tenure in the government,” he added.

Bhattarai also said he was not convinced that the Supreme Court (SC) would give its verdict in the favor of restoring the HoR.

“The only thing we can do is to hope for the best, not trust,” he said urging the NC party not to be complacent about the decision.
