Indian Foreign Secretary Shringla returns home wrapping up Nepal visit

KATHMANDU: Wrapping up his two-day Nepal visit, Indian Foreign Secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla returned home on Friday afternoon.

Shringla boarded an aircraft to New Delhi from Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) at around 5 pm.

Shringla, who arrived in Kathmandu on Thursday morning, held delegation-level talks with his Nepali counterpart, Bharat Raj Poudyal at Hotel Yak and Yeti as soon as he landed in Kathmandu. The meeting dwelled on wide-ranging areas of cooperation between Nepal and India.

He then called on Foreign Minister Pradeep Kumar Gyawali and Prime Minister KP Oli.

During the meeting, Prime Minister Oli had conveyed the message to the Indian side that Nepal is ready to resolve all bilateral issues, including the border, through dialogue, further enhancing the multifaceted relations with neighboring India.

In a conversation with Indian Foreign Secretary Shringla, Prime Minister Oli had urged him to convey the message to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

He also paid courtesy calls on President Bidya Devi Bhandari and Nepali Congress (NC) President Sher Bahadur Deuba.

Foreign Secretary Shringla also visited Gorkha and inaugurated school buildings constructed with Indian assistance.

He also attended a program on Nepal-India relations where he remarked that India’s relationship with Nepal rests on four pillars – development cooperation, stronger connectivity, expanded infrastructure, and economic projects, and easier and enhanced access to educational opportunities in India for the young people of Nepal.

This was the first visit of the Foreign Secretary Shringla to Nepal since he assumed the charge.

Shringla’s visit came after two back-to-back high-level visits from New Delhi by Indian Army Chief General Manoj Mukund Naravane (November) and Research and Analysis Wing head Samant Goel (October).
