265 Nepalis abroad succumb to COVID-19

38,848 Nepalis in 42 countries diagnosed positive



KATHMANDU: The Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) has stated that the death toll of Nepalis abroad due to the coronavirus has reached 265 with 21 new deaths confirmed.

According to NRNA Health Committee, five backlog deaths were confirmed in Kuwait, 14 in Saudi Arabia and one each in the UAE and Uganda.

As per the record maintained by the NRNA Health Committee, 38,848 Nepalis in 42 countries have been diagnosed positive for the pandemic virus so far. Among the total case, 35,078 (92 percent) have recovered.

Committee Coordinator Dr. Sanjeev Sapkota said that coronavirus cases among Nepalis living in Portugal, the UK, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, the UAE and the USA have increased of late.

78,343 Nepalis repatriated so far

Rescue work is underway for Nepalis stranded abroad due to coronavirus lockdown and other reasons. 

So far, 78,343 Nepalis stranded in 32 countries have been rescued through the joint initiative of the NRNA and Nepali embassies.
