70 percent reconstruction of Kashthamandap completed

KATHMANDU: The reconstruction of the Kashthamandap is going ahead as per the target.

The Kashthamandap Reconstruction Committee has shared that 70 percent reconstruction of the heritage monument has been completed so far.

The reconstruction of the first story of the ancient temple has been completed and works are now ongoing on rebuilding the second story.

Kashthamandap temple from which the federal capital gets its name was destroyed completely by the Gorkha earthquake that hit the country in 2015.

Although works on rebuilding the heritage had to be stopped since March due to the global coronavirus pandemic, 35 workers are at work daily at present. President of the Reconstruction Committee, Rajesh Shakya said the reconstruction of the Kashthamandap would be completed within the stipulated time if the works are carried out at the present pace.

Reconstruction of the monument had started in November 2018. The deadline for the completion of the reconstruction is mid-June 2021.

Of the estimated reconstruction cost of Rs 190 million, the Kathmandu Metropolitan City has already provided Rs 105 million.

Altogether 17 thousand 58 cubic feet timber will be required for reconstruction of the Kashthamandap, which will be rebuild using only timber.
