Govt mulls resuming domestic flights, low-risk places to be prioritized



KATHMANDU: The Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation is preparing to resume domestic flights by allowing flights to places with low-risk of the coronavirus.

Though the Ministry has already proposed it before the Council of Ministers, a formal decision is yet to be taken. It is said that the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) and the private sector are also in a state of readiness to operate if the government decides.

CAAN has already approved the safety protocol for domestic flights.

The ministry is preparing to allow domestic flights to Lukla, Rolpa, Simikot, Rara, Taplejung, Sankhuwasabha, Pokhara and Surkhet among others.

The ministry has concluded that air services should not be resumed immediately in the Terai region.

Although international flights are scheduled to resume from September 1, no decision has been taken on domestic flights yet.
