KATHMANDU: TikTok CEO Kevin Mayer has resigned from the company amid ongoing disputes with the Trump administration.

Mayer announced his departure after less than six months into the job in an internal email viewed by the Financial Times.

Issuing a statement a TikTok spokesperson said, “We appreciate that the political dynamics of the last few months have significantly changed what the scope of Kevin’s role would be going forward, and fully respect his decision.

TikTok’s general manager Vanessa Pappas will take over the position in the interim, according to the newspaper.

“In recent weeks, as the political environment has sharply changed, I have done significant reflection on what the corporate structural changes will require, and what it means for the global role I signed up for,” Mayer said in his E-mail.

Over the last few weeks, TikTok has faced an unprecedented pressure from the Trump administration.

Trump has been demanding that an American company purchase TikTok’s US business — a complicated deal considering that TikTok is a global company — or the app would be banned in the US entirely.
