Chandragiri Municipality launches ‘One House, One Graduate’ campaign



KATHMANDU: The Chandragiri Municipality in Kathmandu has launched ‘One House, One Graduate’ so as to educate the citizens in its municipality.

The Municipality having a population of 851,198 as per the 2011 census, is the biggest municipality in the Kathmandu Valley.

The Municipality which has also achieved a cent per cent literacy rate has initiated the campaign to ensure access of education to people from all strata of society.

It has also planned to provide scholarships to people from the deprived, indigenous, women, Madheshi, marginalized and physically challenged community.

Mayor of the Municipality Ghanashyam Giri said that a new plan and program of the municipality includes enrolling children of civil servants in community schools.

Likewise, the Municipality has also decided to hire education consultants and experts to upgrade and enhance the quality of education in community schools.

According to Giri, they would also provide mid-day meal to students in community schools and sanitary pads would be distributed to female students free of cost in those schools.

Likewise, learning centers will also be set up in various places to enhance the quality of education.

The Municipality has 24 schools and two colleges. Among the Rs 1.49 billion budget allocated for the Municipality in the current fiscal year, education and health sector have been highly prioritized, according to Municipality spokesperson Haribhakta Maharjan.
