BEIJING: It’s become a challenge for Chinese President Xi Jinping to handle the coronavirus epidemic.

The initial failings of the Wuhan authorities to control this epidemic have aroused widespread anger in China.

In recent times, Beijing has started to blame local authorities, replacing the party secretary in Hubei Province.

However, public outrage and distrust of the authorities loom large in China.

The Communist Party of China and its leader have shouldered great ambitions of entering a ‘new era’ created by President Xi what has been said as ‘to realize the Chinese Dream of national rejuvenation’.

This is not the first case as crises such as the melamine-laced milk powder scandal that made sick over 300,000 children in 2008 in China. Now, coronavirus has underlined a basic reality as all the sums spent on security in China, it remains elusive for most of the people there.

Xi, now needs to be aware that it was in Wuchang, a district in Wuhan, where a rebellion began in 1911. And it was the same rebellion that led to the downfall of the Qing Dynasty.

People there are not trusted to participate in their governance. Furthermore, they are not given any scope to organize.
