India’s PM Modi appeals for calm in Delhi



NEW DELHI: Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has appealed to the people for calm and peace in Delhi when 20 people have died in the violent clashes in northeast Delhi.

He took to Twitter on Wednesday afternoon saying he held an ‘extensive review meeting’ to look at the situation in Delhi.

PM Modi said he had an extensive review of the situation adding that police and other security agencies are working on the ground to ensure normalcy and peace.

He added that ‘peace and harmony are central to our ethos’ while appealing to the people of Delhi to maintain peace and brotherhood.

Twenty people have died in northeast Delhi over communal violence between rival groups that started on Sunday.

Meanwhile, Congress chief Sonia Gandhi has held Home Minister Amit Shah responsible for the violence. She also sought his resignation.
