Gautam’s NA entry: NCP secretariat proposes; PM Oli disposes

KATHMANDU: In a dramatic turn of events, Prime Minister and Nepal Communist Party (NCP) Chairman K P Oli has flatly rejected the party’s decision to nominate its Vice-Chairman Bam Dev Gautam to the National Assembly.

A meeting of the NCP Secretariat held at Baluwatar earlier today had decided to pick Gautam as a member of the National Assembly.

It was said that Gautam would be nominated by the President on the recommendation of the Council of Ministers after March 3 as the term of the nominated Finance Minister Yuba Raj Khatiwada is expiring on the same day.

PM Oli is in a mood to give continuity to Khatiwada, party insiders told Khabarhub.

Sources claimed that PM Oli is infuriated with the secretariat’s decision to nominate Gautam to the NA. “I can’t tolerate any conspiracies against me…this is intolerable,” the source quoted PM Oli as saying.

PM Oli, however, said he would not mind facing the conspiracies against him.

It should be noted that Gautam had lost the parliamentarian elections held in 2017. He had fought the elections from Bardiya-1, representing the then left alliance.

Gautam had also unsuccessfully endeavored to become a member of the House of Representatives through the backdoor, even by calling back the lawmakers from Kathmandu and Dolpa.

However, he backed off from this move after it courted controversies from all quarters.
