Cold grips Valley as mercury dips to 1.3 degree



KATHMANDU: The normal life has been brought to a grinding halt in the Kathmandu Valley after the temperature plunged to 1.3 degree Celsius on Saturday morning.

The record low temperature of the year was recorded at 5:45 am today, according to Meteorological Forecasting Division (MFD).

Earlier, on December 18, the temperature of the Valley was recorded at 1.6 degree Celsius.

The temperature went down in the morning due to the clear weather on Friday night, said Sajina Shakya, a meteorologist.  The temperature is likely to rise to 20 degree Celsius during the today, according to a weather bulletin issued by the MFD.

Currently, most parts of the Tarai region are covered in thick fogs while the weather is clear in the other parts of the country.

Partly cloudy weather is forecast in Pradesh 1 and Sudurpaschim with chances of snowfall in one or two places of high hilly and mountainous regions today.
