DARCHULA: Personnel of the Armed Police Force (APF) will be staying at the Number 50 Company at Gaga of Chhangru in Byas Rural Municipality throughout the year.
Even though the structure has not been built permanently, the APF personnel have been living in a rented house throughout the year.
APF IGP Shailendra Khanal said the security personnel would not leave the place under any circumstances.
He said, “We are making arrangements for the personnel to stay for throughout the year. They will not return.”
On Friday, Home Minister Ram Bahadur Thapa and IGP Khanal laid the foundation stone of the building.
The APF is now located about 14 kilometers away from the Kalapani area encroached by India.
At present, the personnel are conducting regular patrols from Gaga in Chhangru to Kauwa and Tinkar areas, said IGP Khanal.
The government has established the APF barracks here at Byas after India inaugurated a road linking China via the Nepali territory which it had constructed unilaterally.
Before this, a border outpost had been set up here on May 13 for guarding Nepali land. This outpost has now been upgraded to a company.
The APF Company has been set up at Chhangru as per the decision of the Council of Ministers on July 12. Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Dhirendra Shah leads the company.
The government has already issued a new political and administrative map including Kalapani, Lipulekh and Limpiyadhura areas encroached by India, and it has been increasing security presence in the Byas area.
The government is also preparing to set up border outposts at Tinkar and Kauwa.
