Prohibitory order extended until Sept 2 in Kathmandu Valley



KATHMANDU: A meeting of Chief District Officers (CDOs) of Kathmandu, Bhaktapur and Lalitpur district has decided to extend the prohibitory order by a week.

With the extension of the prohibitory order, services and businesses other than essential ones will not be allowed to operate in the Kathmandu Valley until September 2.

The prohibitory order issued from midnight on August 19 is coming to an end on Wednesday midnight.

Bhaktapur Chief District Officer Humkala Pandey informed that it has been decided to extend the order for one week.

The mayors of Kathmandu Valley on Tuesday suggested to the Chief District Officer of Kathmandu, Janak Raj Dahal, to extend the order stating that the coronavirus cases are increasing in an alarming rate in Kathmandu Valley, of late.

According to Clause 2 of the Infectious Diseases Act, 2020 and clause 6 (3) of the Local Administration Act, 2028, the Chief District Officer has the right to issue an injunction as per the decision of the District Security Committee.

The local administration has also decided to increase the scope of isolation center, contact tracing and tests during the extended prohibitory order period.

“We have reviewed a chain break of coronavirus infection due to the one-week prohibition,” Janakraj Dahal, a CDO of Kathmandu said, adding, “Mobility has come to a standstill in the valley.”

Chief District Officer of Bhaktapur, Pandey, said that the congestion has reduced after the traffic was stopped and the rate of infection in the Kathmandu Valley has decreased.
