Transport operators call for immediate resumption of long-haul transport



KATHMANDU: Public transport entrepreneurs have demanded the government immediately resume the long and medium distance transport saying that the operation of only short distance transport has caused problems for the passengers.

The Federation of Nepalese National Transport Entrepreneurs Association (FNNTEA) has termed the decision of the government allowing operation of public vehicles only within a district unscientific.

FNNTEA Senior Vice President Vijay Swar says, “It is unscientific to operate public transport only within the district. The passengers have been forced to reach their destinations by changing vehicles. It has increased the risk of contracting coronavirus.”

The federation has complained that the government has stopped them from operating long-distance vehicles although they are ready to operate vehicles as per the protocols prescribed by the government.

The government has announced the resumption of long-distance public transport from August 17.
