KATHMANDU: A Nepali national died of coronavirus in abroad in the past week.

According to the Health Committee under the Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA), death has been reported in the UK.

NRNA Health Committee Coordinator Dr. Sanjeev Sapkota said that 161 Nepalis in the foreign land have died of coronavirus infection till Saturday evening.

He said that 29,043 Nepalis living in 36 countries have recovered from coronavirus so far.

 

The number of new deaths reported each week among Nepalis related to coronavirus infection worldwide from May 3- July 25.

Although most of the Nepalis infected with the coronavirus in African countries had recovered, the infection rate has increased in the past week.

Similarly, the number of Nepalis infected with the pandemic in the UAE, Qatar, Kuwait and Saudi Arabia has also increased in the past week.

Meanwhile, at the initiative of the NRNA, Government of Nepal and diplomatic missions, 34,830 Nepalis have been rescued from 25 different countries so far.

The number of total recoveries among coronavirus-infected Nepalis worldwide fromMay 3- July 25.

However, the government has stopped chartered flights from Thursday and regular international flights are scheduled to resume from August 17.

The NRNA stated that 216 dead bodies from Malaysia, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, the UAE, Kuwait, Bahrain, Oman, South Korea and other countries have been brought to Nepal and handed over to their families.

Out of 474 people who lost their lives abroad due to various reasons, 165 have been buried in respective countries with the consent of their families. A total of 94 are yet to be brought to Nepal from abroad, NRNA said.
