Writ petition filed seeking fulfillment of Deputy Speaker post

KATHMANDU: A writ petition has been filed at the Supreme Court (SC) seeking mandamus order for immediate fulfillment of the Deputy Speaker post in the House of Representatives (HoR).

Legal practitioner Tulsi Simkhada lodged the petition naming Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers, Office of the HoR and Speaker, Ministry of Law, Secretariat of the Federal Parliament and Nepal Law Commission as defendants.

Seeking mandamus order in the name of stakeholders concerned, the petitioner has argued that the post of the Deputy Speaker should not remain vacant for more than a month as per the constitutional provision.
