KATHMANDU: A task force under the High-Level Coordination Committee on the Prevention and Containment of COVID-19 has recommended extending the current lockdown by one week.

The task force headed by Chief Secretary Lok Darshan Regmi suggested the extension before the committee.

A meeting of Cabinet will make a final call on the lockdown probably on Sunday.

Earlier today, the committee had assigned the task force to work on the modality of lockdown extension and recommend it to the committee.

In its Saturday afternoon’s meeting, the committee had reached the conclusion that the lockdown should be strictly enforced as the number of coronavirus patients has been increasing and the cases have been reported in different parts of the country.

However, it had also realized that they should work more on the modality of lockdown. Hence, it had assigned the task force to work on that.

After finding the cases of coronavirus from the foreign returnees, the country is in lockdown since March 24.

The government has extended the lockdown period four times so far, and the lockdown period of the fourth time is expiring on Monday morning.

Nepal has so far reported 49 COVID-19 cases and 12 patients have been discharged after recovery.
