Nepal tests over 49,000 samples; COVID-19 tally at 49, 12 recovered



KATHMANDU: A total of 49 cases have been found as Nepal tests over 49,000 samples for coronavirus.

Among them, 12 have been discharged after successful treatment. A 27-year-old youth in Chitwan is the latest person to be discharged.

A 63-year-old woman and her 27-year-old son from Brahmanagar of Rapti municipality-8 in Chitwan district were conformed to be infected on April 17. Both of them had arrived in Nepal from the UK in mid-March via Qatar Airways.

According to the Ministry of Health and Population, 9,666 tests have been carried out through the Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) method and 39,760 through Rapid Diagnostic Test so far.

Spokesperson at the Ministry Dr. Bikash Devkota said that 1,445 tests were carried out in the past 24 hours, adding that 49,336 samples have been tested so far.

Province wise, 4,160 persons have been tested in Province 1 whereas 5,044 in Province 2 and over 7,467 persons are tested in Bagmati Province.

Similarly, the test of 4, 871 in Gandaki Province, 2,950 in Province 5, 4,947 persons in Karnali Province, and 10,204 in Sudurpaschim Province has been completed till today.

Spokesperson Devkota shared that 14,731 people are in quarantine till Saturday and a total of 84 people have been isolated with three in Kathmandu Valley and 84 outside the Valley.

37 undergoing treatment

According to Spokesperson Dr. Devkota 37 people are undergoing treatment in different hospitals across Nepal.

Among them, 30 are receiving treatment in Biratnagar, five in Birgunj and one each in Dhangadhi and Biratnagar.
