Ramechhap’s Likhu Rural Municipality Chair Khadka sent to jail for rape

RAMECHHAP: Chairman of Likhu Tamakoshi Rural Municipality of Ramechhap Gobinda Khadka has been remanded to jail for the trail.

The Ramechhap District on Friday remanded Khadka, who was arrested a month ago on charges of hostage-taking, rape and fraud, to jail for trial.

The court has ordered to send Khadka to jail for trial on rape charges. The court has also demanded Rs 5 million bail bond on the fraud case and Rs 200,000 on the hostage case.

Darpan Tamang, Chairman of the Consumers’ Committee formed to build a road in Dhobi Bazaar of the district, had lodged a complaint against Khadka.

A team of District Police Office Ramechhap arrested Khadka from his house on August 14 on the basis of a complaint of coercion and deception.

A woman from the village had lodged a complaint against Khadka for raping her ten months ago.

Khadka has remained a controversial figure in the rural municipality.

Khadka, who was elected as the Chairman from the then UML, was suspended from all responsibilities including the district member of the party last year saying that he was moving against the party’s policy and people’s sentiments.
