DANG: For absence of technical expertise to operate ventilators and ICU beds in the district, people seriously infected with coronavirus in Dang have not gotten treatment in the hometown.

The hospitals here have ventilators and ICU beds but the patients in serious health condition are sent to Butwal for further treatment.

The Corona Special Hospital established by State No. 5 in Beljhundi and Rapti Academy of Health Sciences have eight ventilators and 15 ICU beds in total, but they are not in use for absence of human resources to handle those and sufficient budget.

The Corona Special Hospital alone has five ventilators and five ICU beds. Member Secretary of Corona Special Hospital Dr Sarbesh Sharma said that at least 30 health professionals including doctors are required to run those beds there.

The Corona Special Hospital in Beljhundi is admitting the asymptomatic patients only but the serious cases are referred to Butwal, Dr Sharma added.

He was of the view additional human resources were not recruited since many patients have not developed the symptoms of coronavirus infection adding that the technical human resources would be hired if the number of the active cases goes up.
