KATHMANDU: A meeting of Council of Ministers has been slated for 4 pm on Sunday at the prime minister’s official residence in Baluwatar.

The meeting will be discussing the budget for the fiscal year 2020/21 among other issues, according to a Cabinet minister.

The government is preparing to bring the budget for the coming fiscal year on Thursday. It is said that the necessary preparations will be discussed in today’s meeting of the Council of Ministers.

The meeting will also be discussing the ongoing efforts and further strategies for the prevention, control and treatment of COVID-19.

The meeting is also expected to come up with a decision to rescue Nepalis stranded in India and other countries.

A large number of Nepalis living abroad want to return home. Up to 2.6 million Nepali migrants are estimated to be in the Gulf, Malaysia and Korea and many have lost their jobs due to coronavirus lockdowns in those countries.

Even after various countries including India have started rescuing their citizens, the government is being criticized from all quarters as Nepali citizens are still stranded. Many Nepalis have been stranded along the Nepal-India border.

Earlier, the Supreme Court (SC) has issued an interim order to the government to evacuate Nepalis who have been rendered jobless and having a hard time meeting daily needs in foreign countries.
