KATHMANDU: The government of Nepal, in the last five years, far spent over Rs 381 billion in its reconstruction efforts of structures, including monuments, private houses, among others destroyed in the devastating 2015 earthquake.
Unfortunately, the government has not accomplished the task of reconstruction till date.
The National Reconstruction Authority (NRA) says reconstruction of only 63 per residential houses of the earthquake survivors have been complete.
Another 25 per cent of the people are still reconstructing their houses.
The NRA has so far spent a total of Rs 309 billion through government agencies and Rs 72 billion through other non-government agencies.
Chief Executive Office Sushil Gyewali said that they could not complete the reconstruction even in these five years due to lack of smooth working environment and other formalities.
Gyewali further stated that out of the 781,176 beneficiaries, 494,044 have built their houses. Meanwhile, 190,145 beneficiaries are constructing their houses.
Meanwhile, out of 7,553 schools, reconstruction of 5,598 (74 per cent) has been done while 20 per cent are under-construction.
Out of the 920 heritage sites in some 32 districts of the country, the reconstruction of 402 heritages has been completed. Similarly, 141 sites are currently under-construction.
According to NRA, out of 1,197 health centers, reconstruction of over 56 per cent has been completed. Around 12 per cent is undergoing reconstruction.
