Commendable jobs in reconstruction works: President Bhandari



KATHMANDU: President Bidya Bhandari has expressed condolence on the Nepali people who lost their lives in the 2015 mega earthquake on the occasion of Fifth Memorial Day today.

Issuing a statement on Friday, President Bhandari stated that Nepal has done a commendable job in rescue, relief distribution and rehabilitation by reconstructing the facilities damaged by the mega earthquake that struck Nepal on April 25, 2015 with its epicenter in Barpak.

“We are united to give a new life to the Nepali people terrorized by the constant tremors and those rendered homeless by the devastating earthquake,” reads the statement.

Bhandari in the statement has thanked all those who assisted in the rescue and rehabilitation work day and night selflessly.

The government has expedited reconstruction of facilities damaged by the mega earthquake.

A total of 500,000 private houses have been reconstructed and over 200,000 are under construction so far.

“A significant achievement has been made in the reconstruction of school buildings, health facilities including those listed in world heritage sites, bridges, government buildings, among others damaged by the earthquake,” reads the statement.

“We can minimize the risk of disasters only if we can make the community people aware of it and effective management and pre-plan,” reads the message.
