NCP row: Oli, Prachanda-Nepal factions holding parallel CC meetings today

KATHMANDU: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and Prachanda-Nepal factions of the ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) are holding parallel central committee meetings in the capital on Thursday.

Oli camp is holding its CC meeting at Baluwatar while Prachanda-Nepal faction is convening it at Babarmahal-based Karki Banquet at 11 am today.

Oli faction in its CC meeting on Tuesday had appointed Pradeep Gyawali as its spokesperson by ousting Narayan Kaji Shrestha.  The meeting has also formed a 1,199-member General Convention Organizing Committee.

It has appointed 556 new members to the existing 447-member central committee while 196 members are yet to be appointed.

Similarly, Prachanda-Nepal faction in its CC meeting on Tuesday appointed Madhav Nepal as its chair ousting Prime Minister Oli.

Today’s CC meeting will fix the rank of the two chairpersons and appoint a general secretary to the faction, sources have said. Janardan Sharma, Surendra Pandey and Bhim Rawal are in the fray for the post of General Secretary.

In its CC meeting held yesterday, Prachanda-Nepal group appointed Pushpa Kamal Dahal as its Parliamentary Party leader by ousting Oli.

Both the factions of the ruling NCP have intensified meetings and appointments claiming legitimacy of the party even though it is yet to split officially.

The Supreme Court will decide the fate of the factions of the ruling NCP and the dissolution of the House of Representatives on Friday.
