KATHMANDU: The task force formed to resolve the internal dispute in the ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) has suggested endorsing the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) Compact by making necessary amendments on it.

The MCC Compact is currently on hold after the parliament is yet to endorse it with the expiry of the deadline, particularly due to the NCP intra-party wrangling.

It may be noted that the Standing Committee of the NCP had witnessed severe differences over the MCC pact resulting to the formation of a team to study its broader impact.

A study team comprising of senior leader Jhalanath Khanal, Standing Committee member Bhim Rawal and Foreign Minister Pradeep Kumar Gyawali formed to suggest the party’s stance on MCC had submitted its report to the party leadership urging for some amendment before its passage by the parliament.

Meanwhile, the six-member task force led by NCP General Secretary Bishnu Poudel has suggested discussions on the issue at the party’s central committee and endorse it by making necessary amendments that have led to confusion.

The government has, meanwhile, informed the US that the MCC was now on hold.

The Finance Ministry had written a missive to the US in this regard with the expiry of the deadline to endorse the compact by the parliament.

The delay in the endorsement of the MCC compact by the parliament was the effect of intra-party wrangling in the ruling Nepal Communist Party.
