KATHMANDU: The ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) has, for the time being, decided to not proceed with the bill that has been aimed at allowing the Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) to investigate corruption in the private sector, including banks.
It should be noted that the bill, if endorsed by the Parliament, would allow the CIAA to become more powerful.
Party Spokesperson Narayan Kaji Shrestha on Wednesday’s Standing Committee meeting had raised the issue.
Prime Minister KP Oli and party Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal had then said that the bill will not be moved forward.
It should also be recalled that the Legislative Management Committee of National Assembly has already passed the amendment bill that would allow the expansion of the CIAA’s jurisdiction.
The bill, however, was widely criticized, particularly from the private sector.
