Birgunj tense as Indian side opens Raxual point unilaterally

KATHMANDU: Tension has flared at Birgunj after the Indian government unilaterally opened the border checkpoint.

The tension flared after the Nepali security personnel barred people coming to Nepal from India through Raxaul Customs Point.

The Indian side opened the border point at 6 am today.

Currently, a large number of people have gathered at the border area after the Indian authorities opened the border point.

The Nepal government had restricted people’s movement through this border point since March 24 to control the spread of coronavirus.

Chief District Officer of Parsa District Ashman Tamang said the border point will remain closed until November 15 as per the decision of the government.
