Lockdown extended by a week in Damak

DAMAK: The lockdown in Damak municipality has been extended by a week as coronavirus infection continues to rise.

An all-party meeting of the Corona Prevention and Control Coordination Committee on Saturday took this decision.

Accordingly, the lockdown will remain in effect until August 29. The previous lockdown period that began on August 16 was supposed to end on Saturday.

However, 16 new cases of COVID-19 were reported on Saturday itself, giving ground to the decision, said deputy Mayor Geeta Adhikari.

The total number of infections in Damak has reached 66 as of Saturday. Of them, 14 have recovered while the remaining are in hospital and home isolation, said officer at the health division of the municipality, Nagendra Bhattarai.
