Lawmakers condemn ‘attacks’ on people’s representatives

KATHMANDU: Lawmakers at the House of Representatives (HoR) have condemned repeated attacks on people’s representatives in different parts of the country on various pretexts.

Parliamentarian Hem Kumar Rai sought action against people involved in attacks and abuse against people’s representatives.

Speaking during special hour of the HoR Tuesday, Rai said assailants who issued a life threat to promoters of hydropower projects on Solukhumbu need to be taken legal action.

According to him, Likhupike rural municipality Chair and Vice Chair were manhandled and abused by a group of people in their offices on June 14.

He condemned the offence saying such actions will not be tolerated under any circumstances.

Lawmaker Rai also said that Solu Dudhkunda municipality’s deputy mayor also faced similar circumstances while attending a municipality meeting.

Likewise, lawmaker Amresh Kumar Singh objected to the police arrest of innocent person in the alleged involvement in the death of Ramrajan Raya of Ramnagar in Sarlahi.

He demanded investigation into the matter, and accused the government and mechanism of failing to embrace the rule of law.

Yadav also called for adhering to previous agreement for citizenship Mahendra Yadav accused the Nepal Communist Party (NCP) of turning away from the past agreement on the citizenship issue and trying to establish a wrong culture.

He further accused the government of pushing the Tarai-Madhes people into injustice and jeopardize the marital affairs there.

Meanwhile, blaming that the citizenship bill has tried to spoil the religious and cultural relations between Nepal and India, lawmaker Pradeep Yadav demanded correction of the decision made by State Affairs and Good-Governance Committee over citizenship bill.

He drew government’s attention to correct the provision mentioned in the bill with ill intention, saying the seven-year provision regarding naturalized citizenship is impractical.
