KATHMANDU: Labeling the newly introduced ordinances as anti-democratic and regressive, the main opposition party Nepali Congress and other parties in the parliament has demanded the repealing of the ordinances instantly.
The meeting of the opposition parties called at the initiation of Nepali Congress has demanded the government to revoke the ordinances it introduced recently deeming them as against the norms and values of democracy.
The meeting of the parties held at Sanepa-based party central office of Nepali congress called for the new session of the parliament.
They have put forward their concern in 6 points.
Upendra Yadav, the Chairperson of Socialist Party Nepal informed that the meeting concluded the ordinances as anti-democratic.
He remarked that the government’s move has shed light on the necessity of united efforts of the democratic forces. He cited the government has gone autocratic.
According to the joint secretary of Nepali Congress Prakash Sharan Mahat, the meeting concluded that Prime Minister KP Oli has paved room for autocratic rule through the newly introduced ordinances.
Mahat added that the meeting decided to call another meeting including the civil society leaders.
The opposition parties have appealed all to stand together to fight against the government which has been insensitive towards the panic caused by coronavirus pandemic.
The meeting called by NC was attended by the leaders from the Socialist Party Nepal, Rastriya Janatantrik Party and Rastriya Prajatantra Party.
In the meantime, Nepali Congress has called party’s Central Committee Meeting to discuss about the ordinances introduced by the government.
According to Krishna Prasad Paudel, the party’s Chief Secretary, the NC has called its Central Committee meeting at 1 PM on Aprril 29.
Issuing a press release on Wednesday, 11 young leaders of NC had demanded the party’s Central Committee meeting at the earliest.
