Coronavirus death toll crosses 177, 400 globally with over 2.5 million infected

KATHMANDU: With Coronavirus wreaking havoc across the world, the death toll from the novel virus has jumped to 177, 400 after 7,005 people died in the last 24 hours as of Wednesday morning.

According to the latest figures collated by Worldometer, with 74, 065 new cases, the number of infection cases has reached 2, 554,568.

Currently, 1,687,127 people are undergoing treatment at various hospitals across the world, of which 57, 239 are critical.

Meanwhile, 690,039 have recovered after treatment.

America, the worst-hit in terms of both deaths and infection cases, has witnessed 2, 765 deaths in the last 24 hours, taking the tally to 45,279 as of Wednesday morning.

With 25, 193 new cases, the number of infection cases has reached 817, 952 according to the latest figures collated by Worldometer.

Currently, 689,813 coronavirus patients are undergoing treatment at various hospitals across America, of which the condition of 14, 016 is critical.  Meanwhile, 82,860 have recovered after treatment.

New York is the worst-hit with 19, 693 deaths followed by New Jersey and Michigan with 4, 753 and 2, 700 deaths, respectively.

The US Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) had declared Coronavirus a Public Health Emergency on January 31 in the US.

Italy, the second worst-hit country in terms of deaths, has witnessed 534 deaths in the last 24 hours, taking the death toll to 24,648 as of Wednesday morning.

With 2,729 new cases, the number of infection cases has reached 183, 957, the third highest in terms of infection cases, after Spain and America.

Currently, 107,709 people are undergoing treatment at various hospitals in the country, of which 2,471 are critical. Meanwhile, 51,600 have recovered after treatment.

Spain has the second highest number of infection cases with 204, 178 after the United States of America (USA).

According to Worldometer, 3,968 people were infected and 430 died in a single day. A total of 21,282 people have died due to the novel virus as of Wednesday morning.

Currently, 100,382 are undergoing treatment at various hospitals in the country, of which 7,705 are critical.

Meanwhile, 82,514 have recovered after treatment.

The United Kingdom (UK) has reported 828 new deaths taking the total tally to 17,337 as of Wednesday morning.

With 4,301 new cases, the number of infection cases has surged to 129,044 according to Worldometer.

Currently, 111,363 people are undergoing treatment at various hospitals in the country, of which 1, 559 are critical.

France has registered 20, 796 deaths after 531 died in a single day.

With 2,667 new cases, the total number of infection cases has surged to 158, 050 as of Wednesday morning.

Currently, 98, 073 are undergoing treatment at various hospitals in the country, of which 5,433 are critical. Meanwhile, 39,181 have returned home after recovery.

India has registered 53 new deaths in the last 24 hours taking the total tally to 645 as of Wednesday morning.

According to Worldometer, with 1,541 new cases, the number of infection cases has surged to 20, 080.

Currently, 15, 460 are undergoing treatment at various hospitals in the country while 3,975 have returned home after recovery. The India government has conducted tests on 447, 812 people for Coronavirus so far.

Broke out in Wuhan City of China last December, the deadly virus has spread to 210 countries including two international conveyances across the world, killing 177,402 and infecting 2,554,568 people as of Wednesday morning.
