Banke becoming center for medicinal herb farming

BANKE: The district of Banke is becoming the sprouting of commercial farming of medicinal herbs with the government proposing Banke for commercial farming of such herbs.

Out of 30 types of medicinal herb species prioritized by the government, 12 types have been recommended for commercial farming in the district.

Local farmers have grown medicinal herbs such as amala, asparagus, and mentha.

The government has prioritized species of local medicinal herbs.

Sunil Kumar Acharya, chief of the Botanical Garden, Banke said exotic medicinal herbs can also be grown in the district. They, however, may decrease the production of local ones, he added.

A botanical research center has been established by the government in Nepalgunj with an aim to protect and conserve near-extinct medicinal herbs as well as to carry out an ethnobotanical study and distribute benefits of medicinal herbs to local people.
