Nepal Bar Association terms dissolution of the HoR “unconstitutional”

KATHMANDU: Although Monday saw three different press releases of Nepal Bar Association (NBA) on President’s dissolution of House of Representatives (HoR), professional association of all law practitioners in Nepal, NBA has claimed its General Secretary’s release denouncing the dissolution as the authentic one.

NBA’s General Secretary Lila Mani Poudel had issued a press release on Monday claiming Prime Minister KP Oli’s decision to recommend the dissolution of parliament is a breach of the spirit of the Constitution of Nepal.

Immediately after him, NBA Treasurer Rudra Prasad Pokhrel had issued another release claiming that the statement issued by the General Secretary was personal and NBA’s Secretariat and central committee did not agree with the General Secretary’s decision.

After witnessing two controversial statements from the officials, NBA Chairman Chandeshwor Shrestha issued another release clarifying that the opinion mentioned in the General Secretary’s statement is the authentic opinion of the NBA as out of 26 officials and members of Nepal Bar 19 go with the spirit of General Secretary Poudel’s statement.

Chairman Shrestha is known as a lawyer close to the former Maoists whereas General Secretary Poudel and Treasurer Pokhrel are known as the lawyer close to Nepali Congress and former UML respectively.
