Oli, Prachanda-Nepal factions holding parallel CC meetings today

KATHMANDU: With the dissolution of the parliament, Oli and Prachanda-Nepal factions of the ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) have called separate central committee (CC) meetings today.

Both the factions are holding CC meetings with the leaders of their factions. They have already sent a circulation to the CC members asking them to participate in the meetings.

Prime Minister Oli is holding the CC meeting at 9 am while Prachanda-Nepal faction has scheduled its CC meeting for 1 pm today.

A CC meeting of the Prachanda-Nepal faction to be organized at a banquet in the capital is likely to take a disciplinary action against another Chairman Oli.

It is learnt that Prachanda-Nepal faction in the CC meeting will pass the agenda to revive the parliament arguing that it was dissolved against the provision of the Constitution. They are also preparing to hit the streets in collaboration with the political parties represented in the parliament.

Earlier, the Standing Committee meeting of the NCP had decided to take a disciplinary action against Oli.

Meanwhile, Oli faction is preparing to dispatch a letter to the Election Commission if Prime Minister Oli is penalized through majority by the Prachanda-Nepal faction.

Meanwhile, all the CC members living outside the capital have arrived to participate in the meeting.

Today’s parallel meetings of the NCP will officially lead the party towards split, say political analysts.

The then CPN-UML and CPN (Maoist Center) who formed an electoral alliance on October 3, 2017 and underwent merger to form the Nepal Communist Party on May 17, 2018 is on the verge of split without completing the unification process.

A cabinet meeting called by Prime Minister Oli on Sunday (December 20) recommended the President to dissolve the parliament.

President Bidya Bhandari dissolved the parliament at the recommendation of the government on the same day.
