Tourists barred from entry to Lukla, airport closes indefinitely

KATHMANDU: Lukla Airport has been closed indefinitely after Khumbu Pasanglamu Rural Municipality of Solukhumbu barred the arrival of tourists indefinitely from Friday.

Stating that the coronavirus infection has increased, the rural municipality has written a letter to all helicopters and airlines urging them not to bring tourists indefinitely.

It is stated in the letter issued by the rural municipality that only permanent residents of the rural municipality, civil servants, and teachers are allowed to enter.

But, they should produce a COVID-19 negative report tested 72 hours before arrival.

Hotels and lodges have also been closed to prevent the spread of coronavirus, it said.
